  • Negotiate transport rates and terms, ensuring alignment with budget targets and service-level agreements (SLAs).

  • Track KPI’s — e.g. OTIF, cost per load, claims — and balance these against financial goals.
  • Quickly resolve transit issues, customs delays, damaged cargo, or billing disputes.
  • Review overnight load statuses: late pickups, customs hold-ups, unexpected delays.
  • Team briefing: highlight urgent jobs, driver shortages, or equipment constraints.
  • Carrier coordination: dispatch bookings, negotiate spot quotes, confirm driver assignments.
  • Documentation control: verify PODs, invoices, customs declarations, and accurate data entry.

  • KPI & cost analysis: check daily OTIF stats, claim logs, and cost variances against budget.
  • Propose improvements: suggest driver/broker debriefs or feedback sessions.
  • Prepare next-day manifests, confirm critical runs, and hand over unresolved issues to the night controller.
  • To prepare a Transport Controller for the next-level role (e.g., National Road Freight Manager), focus on these enhanced tasks:
