Oversee the daily planning, execution, and monitoring of road freight distribution operations across South Africa and neighbouring regions.
Ensure service excellence by meeting on-time delivery KPIs, maintaining fleet utilization efficiency, and optimizing routing and scheduling.
Drive compliance with DACHSER global distribution standards, local transport regulations, health & safety, and quality management systems.
Manage and develop distribution teams, including drivers, dispatchers, and operational staff, to ensure high performance and adherence to company values.
Monitor distribution cost structures and implement initiatives to improve EBIT conversion through fuel efficiency, reduced mileage, and load optimization.
Collaborate with the Customer Service, Warehousing, and Freight Forwarding divisions to ensure seamless end-to-end service delivery.
Implement and enforce the use of DACHSER’s IT systems (TMS, Telematics, Tracking) to improve transparency, efficiency, and reporting accuracy.
Build strong relationships with external stakeholders, including transport partners, suppliers, and regulatory authorities, ensuring DACHSER SA’s reputation as a reliable logistics provider.
Analyze operational data and performance reports, identifying gaps and implementing corrective actions for continuous improvement.
Lead and support distribution-related projects, including digitalization initiatives, sustainability programs (e.g., fuel reduction, carbon efficiency), and network expansion.
Your qualifications
Diploma or Degree in Logistics Management, Supply Chain Management, Transport Economics, or Business Administration.
National Diploma in Logistics or a BCom in Supply Chain/Transport Management.
Ongoing professional development courses (e.g., transport compliance, advanced distribution planning, fleet management) are typical.
Familiarity with transport legislation (e.g., Road Traffic Act, OHS Act, and cross-border permit requirements).
Proficiency in transport and fleet management systems (TMS, telematics, routing software) and exposure to ERP systems (SAP or similar).
Health, Safety & Environmental training (HSE, ISO 9001/45001 awareness).
8–12 years’ experience in logistics/distribution/transport operations.
At least 5 years in a managerial/supervisory role overseeing drivers, dispatchers, and operational staff.
Road freight distribution (domestic and cross-border) — including managing own fleet and subcontractors.
